2016 Block Kids Competition at ECS

We held the NAWIC Block Kids event on January 13th at Epsom Central School through the Better Buddies after school program for the second year in a row.  A total of sixteen (16) kids participated - 7 girls and 9 boys ranging from 1st to 4th grade.  We had an interactive discussion with the students on different types of construction jobs and cool construction equipment.  The kids were very excited to start building their construction related design with the legos we provided them.  They also enjoyed being able to pick some extra materials to use within their design such as tinfoil, rocks, strings or cardboard. 
 
The finished projects included cranes, excavators, houses, a hardhat, bridges, a trash truck and even a granite quarry.  There was lots of detail in the designs as can be seen in the photos. 

All participants received a certificate and goodie bag full of fun stuff like pencils, inflatable hammers, construction stickers, tattoos, wiki sticks and more!  Five (5) prizes were given to the top 3 designs and then 2 honorable mentions.  Kids seemed very enthusiastic about participating in this event and we hope to come back to the school next year as well!  Thanks to all our NAWIC volunteers, the Better Buddies program and Epsom Central School for allowing us to hold this event.
